Due Date Assignment Description
9/18/2020 Answer 4 questions about Catholic Social Teachings

nstructions

  • We will reviewed the safety rules that we must follow during this pandemic.  We discussed the importance of keeping ourselves and every person in our lives safe.  This connects to one of the essential areas of study which you will explore next year in Grade 7 Religion: Catholic Social Teachings. In Literature class, over the next few months, we will be reviewing the seven Catholic Social Teachings.  We will continue to apply these Social Teachings to other areas of study, including Literature and History.

  • The first Catholic Social Teaching is the Life and Dignity of the Human Person

  • Here is a brief explanation of the Catholic Church's Teaching on human life:

The Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. This belief is the foundation of all the principles of our social teaching. In our society, human life is under direct attack from abortion and euthanasia.  The value of human life is being threatened using the death penalty. The intentional targeting of civilians in war or terrorist attacks is always wrong. Catholic teaching also calls on us to work to avoid war. Nations must protect the right to life by finding increasingly effective ways to prevent conflicts and resolve them by peaceful means. We believe that every person is precious, that people are more important than things, and that the measure of every institution is whether it threatens or enhances the life and dignity of the human person.

  • HOMEWORK: Carefully read the brief definition of The Life and Dignity of the Human Person (in the bullet point directly above this one).

  • Think about how this connects to following rules regarding wearing masks, social distancing, hand washing and ventilation at school.

  • Answer these four questions in writing and upload your answers here in Assignments for Mrs. Schloat to grade.

  1.  List at least three ways that you can protect yourself from COVID-19 (and other viruses) while attending school.

  2. List at least  three ways that you can protect other people from any germs you may have (while you are at school).

  3. List at least  three ways that your teachers can protect their students from becoming sick during this pandemic.

  4. Explain how all of this connects to the Catholic Church's definition of the Life and Dignity of the Human Person (Use at least 5 sentences to explain.)
