Kathleen Baliga Web Pages

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Hello Families of Kindergarten. You can use this webpage to see our weekly activities in our classroom. Please check your child's communication folder (Green Folder) for any important information and return the folder to school daily.

Please be sure you return any school forms to school this week including Student Information Sheet from the office, a Parent Survey from me, $1 for the Communication folder and $7 for Scholastic Magazine.   Also, if the technology permission form is not submitted, your child will not be allowed to use an iPad during Coding or use a computer in the computer lab.

On Thursday, September 19th we will be hosing Back to School Night. Please join us at 6:30 in the gym for the first Home and School Association meeting. Parents will then be invited to view the classrooms and learn more about our daily routine and what your child will be learning in Kindergarten this year. I hope to see everyone there!

Religion- We will be learning about God's creation of the Earth and discussing His gifts that we find in Nature. On Tuesday we will meet our 8th Grade Guardian Angels and go on a Nature walk to gather materials to make a Nature collage. On Friday we will read our first Seed magazine to learn about the upcoming Gospel story for the week.

Literacy- This week we will be discussing and naming the upper case and lowercase letters A-E. We will also name words that begin with these letters. We will be practicing identifying rhyming words and sounds. We will also be introduced to our first two High Frequency Words; I, am. We will be reading decodable readers with these words practicing using our pointing fingers as we touch each word we read. We will also practice identifying characters in stories that we will be reading.

Math- We will begin our first topic on numbers 1-5. This week we will practice counting 4 and 5 and using manipulatives to help us count. We will also practice writing the numbers 4 and 5 in our Orange Handwriting book. We will also participate in Math Groups on Friday where we will rotate between 3 centers practicing skills learned in this topic.

Science- We will continue to discuss using our 5 Senses to help us in making observations. We are still carefully observing the caterpillar in our classroom, he is growing so fast!

Social Studies- Social Studies will be integrated through our first unit in Reading Street as we discuss cooperation. We will use our Social Studies workbooks to discuss and record ways that others can show cooperation in groups.

Please view your child's Green Folder for other information about our classroom.
