Welcome to the Third Grade Web Page. Continue working on multiplication facts with your child to improve fact fluency.

***During our SGS closure I will post daily assignments on this page, as well as in the homework section, and send you a daily e-mail. I hope that this will allow for everyone to get the needed information for students to complete daily assignments. Please be safe and stay healthy.***

 

Distance Learning for March 27, 2020

 

Reading/Language Arts: Stuart Little Reading Test for Chapters 6-10. There are 5 short answer questions that need to be answered in complete sentences, 4 multiple choice questions, 6 fill in the blank, and the story of the Gingerbread Man where you will have to add “quotation marks” so show dialogue or that someone is speaking. Quotations marks look like this “            “ around words. We see them all the time when we are reading a story. It shows us someone is talking. We will go over your test at our Zoom meeting in the morning. Send me your reading test when you are done.

Math: 30-40 minutes on i-Ready. You must be doing this daily. I am using i-Ready for attendance this week for your distance learning.

Writing: Choose a Journal Prompt for today and answer it completely. Use complete sentences or a paragraph depending on which prompt you pick. Proofread you work. Please illustrate your writing.

Technology: 10-15 minutes each on Keyboarding Without Tears and Hour of Code.

Science: Finish building your “Junkbot” robot. Don’t forget to send me a picture. I can’t wait to see your creations.

Religion: Read your Good News for this week and complete the activities. You should have it in the packet of papers you took home before we left school. The Bible readings for today are: Wisdom 2:1A, 12-22 and John 7:1-2, 10, 25-30.

 

Distance Learning for March 26, 2020

Reading/Language Arts: Read Chapter 10 – “Springtime” in Stuart Little, p. 67-71. This is a very short chapter. You will need to answer the 5 comprehension questions in complete sentences and locate and define the vocabulary words: delicatessen, permanent, offhand, and obliged. Complete the Point of View activity by filling in the two charts, planning out our letter from Snowbell’s point of view and writing the letter from Snowbell’s point of view. I would like you to scan or take a picture of the Point of View activity and send it to me when you have completed it. Keep working on your storyboard.

Writing: Your writing today is your Snowbell letter.

Math: 30-40 minutes on i-Ready. You must be doing this daily. I am using i-Ready for attendance this week for your distance learning.

Technology: 10-15 minutes each on Keyboarding Without Tears and Hour of Code.

Religion: Read pages 39-42 in your Family Life book, complete the Caring for Baby Mammal activity on p. 41 and Care for New Life activity on p. 42. The Bible readings for today are - Ex 32:7-14 and John 5:31-47.

Science: STEM activity – Build a “Junkbot” robot. Since you just read an article in Scholastic News “A Sea of Plastic” I would like you to create a “Junkbot” robot using of materials you can recycle. You can use materials like paper towel rolls, plastic bottles, cans, or anything else you might put into your recycle basket, be creative. I would like you to build your “Junkbot” robot by Friday and e-mail me a picture of it. Gather up your materials and have fun!

 

Distance Learning for Wednesday, March 25, 2020

Reading/Language Arts: Read Chapter 9 – A Narrow Escape in Stuart Little, p. 57-66. Answer the 4 Questions on Stuart Little Chapter 9-10 Questions and the first 4 questions on Chapter 9 A Narrow Escape. You do not need to answer #5. Locate and define the chapter vocabulary words: Irish Terrier, shinny, hoisted, anxious, scow and gingerly. Please make sure you answer your questions in complete sentences.

Writing: Choose a Journal Prompt for today and answer it completely. Use complete sentences or a paragraph depending on which prompt you pick. Proofread your work. Please illustrate your writing.

Math: 30-40 minutes on i-Ready. You must be doing this daily. I am using i-Ready for attendance this week for your distance learning.

Religion: In your Family Life book, read Lesson 5 Being Alive on p. 35-38. Complete the Figuring Out a Flower activity on p. 37 and Signs of God’s Love activity on p. 38.

Social Studies: Access Scholastic News https://sn3.scholastic.com, our class code is sgsGrade3! After you log in, on the left, click on Text Sets, then click on the box Protecting Our Environment, Click on the article Sea of Plastic. Read this article. When you are done, at the bottom of the article, click on Close Reading Questions. This is a PDF, you can type the answers to the questions here. You can either have mom or dad download your answers or take a screen shot and e-mail them to me, whichever way is easier for them. If you would rather write your answers on a piece of paper, take a picture and e-mail it to me that is fine too.

March 24, 2020

Reading/Language Arts:  Read Chapter 8 in Stuart Little, pages 47-56. You should answer questions 5, 6 and 7 from Stuart Little Chapter 7-8, answer the 5 questions on the Chapter 8 "Margalo" paper, complete the sequencing activity for Chapter 8 and locate and define Chapter 8 vocabulary words - penetrate, nip, gargle, descended, and crouched. You may use Google for definitions and keep working on your story board. You should have 8 drawings done (1 for each chapter) after today.

Writing: Pick your Journal Prompt for today. Complete the activity or write a good third grade paragraph (5 to 7 complete, well thought out sentences). Illustrate your writing.

Math: Complete 30-40 minutes on I-Ready. I am checking everyday to see that you are working. This is how I am taking attendance.

Technology: 10-15 minutes on each Keyboarding Without Tears and Hour of Code. 

Religion and Science: Complete the Unit 2 Review on p. 31-32. Read the top of p. 31. Complete the 5 fill in the blank sentences, 5 true/false, and the 3 short answer questions. Don't forget to write in complete sentences.

For Science, ask someone in your house to do the Working Together activity on the bottom of p. 32 in your Family Life book with you and write about what you did.

 

 

March 23, 2020 *** Amended Reading Assignment***

Reading/Language Arts - Read Chapter 7 "The Sailboat Race"  in Stuart Little, pages 36-46. Answer all questions for Chapter 7, this will be Stuart Little Chapter 7-8 Questions 1-4, (you will do questions 5-7 for Chapter 8) and the Chapter 7 "The Sailboat Race" questions 1-7 and locate and define your Chapter 7 words: smartly, rigging, blotting, looming, tremble and yawning. You may use Google to help you with your definitions. Keep working on your story board.

Writing - Pick a Journal Prompt and either complete the activity or write a complete third grade paragraph (no less than 5-7 sentences). Use the paper in your journal to make sure your writing is complete. Don't forget to illustrate your writing. 

Math - Complete 30-40 minutes on I-Ready. I am checking your progress each day.

Technology - 10-15 each on Keyboarding without Tears and Hour of Code. You may do more, but you must work on both.

Religion -  Family Life, read Lesson 4 Learning to Choose, p.  27-30 and complete the Command the Robot activity on p. 29 and Making Good Choices Activity on p. 30.

Social Studies - Complete your Scholastic News, https://sn3.scholatic.com, password: sgsGrade3!. Read Take the Shamrock Challenge, Slither Into Spring, and Is It Every OK to Quit. Complete the Oreo Opinions, Be A Quiz Wiz and the back page of your issue.

 

March 20, 2020

Reading/Language Arts - Read Chapter 6 "A Fair Breeze" p. 26-35 in Stuart Little. Please answer the five questions on the Stuart Little Chapter 6 Questions and the five questions on Chapter 6 - "A Fair Breeze" pages in complete sentences. Please locate and define the chapter vocabulary words: gait, inconvenience, tartly, berth, detestable, bon voyage. You may use Google for your definitions. Complete the Sequencing of Events Activity.

Writing: Choose a Journal Prompt for today and either complete the activity or write a good third grade paragraph for your answer (no less than 5-7 sentences). Don't forget to proofread and illustrate your work. 

Math: I-Ready 30-40 minutes. Remember I am checking your progress daily.

Technology: 15 minutes on Hour of Code and 15 minutes on Keyboarding Without Tears.

Science/Health: Go https//sn3.scholastic.com. Our class login is sgsGrade3! Click on the Science tab at the top. I would like you to read the  Article from March 18, 5 Big Questions About Coronavirus and watch the video Your Immune System. We talked about this last week when we were in school and watched the Tim and Moby Brain Pop.

Click on  All Issues at the top and explore the April 22, 2019 edition on Artificial Intelligence. Click on Presentation View - Open English, and view to read. Read Can We Be Friends and watch the video. Read Butterflies in Trouble, watch the video and play the Pick a Pollinator Game. You can also read Places in the News and watch the Video

Religion: You have this week's Good News. Please read it and complete any activities.

March 19, 2020

Reading/Language Arts - Complete the Stuart Little Chapters 1-5 test. There are 3 pages to this test and you can use your chapter work and book to answer all the questions. Keep working on your Stuart Little Story Board

Writing - Pick a Journal Prompt for today and complete the activity or write a complete, good 3rd grade paragraph (no less than 5-7 sentences).

Math: 30-40 minutes on I-Ready.

Technology: 10-15 minutes on either Hour of Code or Keyboarding Without Tears. You may do both if you wish.

Religion: Read Lesson 3 - Feelings on p. 23-26 and complete the Following the Rules activity on p. 25 and the Listening to Your Feelings activity on p. 26. The Bible readings for today are: First Reading: 2 Sm 7:4-5a, 12-14a, 16; Second Reading: Rom 4:13, 16-18, 22; and Matthew 1:16, 18-21, 24a.

Social Studies: Read the story A Hero for Women in your Scholastic News. Complete the An American Hero Timeline and the Close Reading questions for this story that are in your packet. You can use the Scholastic News website and watch the video for this story.

 

March 18, 2020

Reading/Language Arts - Read Chapters 4 and 5 of Stuart Little, pages 17-25. Answer the 5 questions on the Stuart Little Chapters 4-5 page in complete sentences and answer the 6 questions on Chapter Five "Rescued" in complete sentences. Locate and define the vocabulary words: vigorous, wedged, disgust and  exasperated. Remember you can use Google if you want for your definitions. 

Writing - Pick your journal prompt for today. Either complete the activity or write a good 3rd grade paragraph (no less than 5-7 sentences). Don't forget to date your journal and illustrate your writing. Remember - Be Creative!

Math - 30-40 minutes on I-Ready! You are doing great, keep up the good work!

Technology - 10-15 minutes on either Hour of Code or Keyboarding Without Tears. You may do both if you wish.

Religion - Complete the Unit 1 Review on p. 19-20. You can use your book to do this.

Today's Bible readings are Dt 4:1, 5-9 and Matthew 5:17-19.

Social Studies -  You can login to Scholastic by using the following https://sn3.scholastic.com, click login, then the box I Am A Student, our class login is sgsGrade3! I would like you to read 1 article today. Please read A Game Changed My Life. You should also be able to see the video. I would like you to complete the Close Reading questions for this story that are in your packet. 

 

 

 

March 17, 2020

Reading/Language Arts - Read Chapters 2 and 3 of Stuart Little, pages 7-16. Answer the 5 questions for Chapter 2 in complete sentences and locate and define the vocabulary words: stooping, terrific, belittling, substitute, and pantry. Illustrate and write about the Event Activity about one of the five problems the Littles were experiencing. Answer the 5 questions for Chapter 3 in complete sentences and locate and define chapter vocabulary words: abdominal, wrapper, drawn, and sill. You may use Google to define your words. You can start work on your Stuart Little story board while you are reading.

Writing: Pick a new Journal Entry and either complete the activity or write a complete (no less than 5-7 sentences) response/paragraph. You may use 1/4 of the two pages to illustrate you entry. Don't forget to date it.

Math: 30-40 minutes on I-Ready

Technology: 10-15 minutes each on Keyboarding Without Tears and Hour of Code.

Religion: Read Lesson 2 - Family Living p. 15-18 and complete the Sticking Together activity on p. 17 and the I Celebrate with My Family activity on p. 18. I will post daily Bible readings that you may read together as a family. Today's Bible readings are Dn 3:25, 34-43 and Matthew 18:21-25.

 


 

March 16, 2020

Reading/Language Arts - Complete Pre-Reading Activity and read Chapter 1 of Stuart Little p. 1-6. Answer 8 questions from Chapter 1 in complete sentences and locate and define chapter vocabulary words: sharp, solemnly, streamed and trifle. You may use Google if you wish.

Writing: Journal Writing - pick one prompt and write a 5-7 (at least) sentence paragraph or appropriate response for the prompt you picked. You may use 1/4 of the page to illustrate your prompt.

Religion: Begin Family Life - The Human Family and read p. 11-14. Complete My Family Portrait on p. 13 and answer questions 1-3 on p. 14 My Family Helps Me Grow. Today's Bible Readings are 2 Kings, Chapter 5, Verses 1-15 and Luke, Chapter 4, Verses 24-30.

 Math: 30-40 minutes on I-Ready

Technology 10-15 minutes each on Hour of Code and Keyboarding Without Tears
